Overview
Parambikulam is home of four indigenous communities residing in six tribal settlements with 296 families and total population of 1254 individuals. Till the year 2000, the people in the settlements were solely dependent on the timber operations in the plantations of the reserve. Ban on timber extraction for commercial purpose from the Protected Areas by the order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court resulted in large scale unemployment among the local tribal communities which in turn increased over-exploitation of natural forests for non-timber forest produces, fishing in the reservoirs, collection of firewood, small scale poaching etc.

The Tariff is the minimum rate quoted for a group of Ten people. Safari shall done by using their own vehicle.
Check-post entry charges shall be additional. Even though the program includes 'Trekking', it is strongly advised that small children and those with difficulties in walking may refrain from participating. Trekking requires a certain level of physical endurance, especially since the reserve has Elephant presence in all trails.
Itinerary
‘a Day in Parambikulam’ is a program created for visitors who want to spend a full day in Parambikulam Tiger Reserve inclusive of Safari Program, Bamboo Rafting, Trek and Lunch.
Specific attractions include Thunakkadavu Dam, Kannimara Teak, Dam-view Point, Valley-view Point, Parambikulam Dam, Tribal Heritage Centre, Eco shops at Parambikulam and Anappady.
The program commences with a Safari followed with a Bamboo Rafting in Parambikulam Reservoir. Thereafter the visitors shall be provided with lunch at Kannimara Café followed by a trek through the Elephant Song Trail.
The Program will be facilitated through Naturalists employed by Parambikulam Tiger Conservation Foundation. All Canteens and Eco shops are run by members of local Tribal Communities. All proceeds from the Program is recycled to remunerate them and for conservation and up-gradation of the Tiger Reserve.
